Charlotte Foreman Peters (John Clark Peters)

Spread the love

Charlotte Foreman Peters was born in May 1862 in Oak Bowery, Chambers County, Alabama.  On October 24, 1880, she married John Clark Peters, the elder son of Jim and Joana Peters.  They married in Chambers County, Alabama.   They lived in Oak Bowery as a family for around 20 years more or less.   Then, they migrated to Anniston, Alabama where they remained throughout life.

I believe that at some time or other, they must have gotten a divorce.   Because by the time Charlotte died, her name had changed to Lindsay.   My mama’s bible record records her death on August 6, 1946.  It also shows her four children: Hattie Mae, Mary Willis  (“Mae Will”), Ulysses, and Loving Oscar.   Though Oscar was the oldest of her four children, he was the last one to die.

This comment is a summary of my notes regarding my great grandmother Charlotte (Foreman) Peters Lindsey. Many of the facts are sketchy, but they come from the documents I have been able to locate on Ancestry. As I get updated information, I will try to correct these notations.

I believe that my Great Grandmother was born Charlotte Foreman. She was around 4 years old in the 1870 Census, which would have put her birthdate in 1866.

Some records show that she was born on May 1862, but this is very different depending on what you’re looking at.

In 1885 Ancestry shows that she married William Barrow. She would have been around 19 years old at this time. (But this Charlotte may not have been my grandmother).

In the 1900 Census, She was with her husband, John Peters in Oak Bowery. They had 4 children: Mary Will, Hattie Mae, Oscar and Ulysses. (I know this to be true because these are similar to the facts my mother related to me during her lifetime).

When did John Peters Die? In 1910 John was living in Alexandria, Alabama and Farming (Marital Status was shown as “Single)

By the 1920 census, she was living in Roanoke, Alabama with her daughter, Mary W. Peters who was 33, and Hattie Lee Peters (5) [my mother].
If calculations are right, she would have been around 54 years old in 1920.

She gave her status as “widowed” at this time.

In 1930 Census, she was in Anniston, Alabama with her 2 sons, and her 16-year-old granddaughter Hattie Lee.

I assume she remained in Anniston, Alabama until her death.

She died August 6, 1946 in Anniston, Calhoun County, Alabama

(Her husband) John was born around August, 1853
John died in Alexandria Alabama on January 28, 1919.
