History Of The Peters-Clements-Gazaway Family Reunion

This Family Gets Together!!

For those who may not be as familiar with our Annual Family Gatherings, we would like to include a rundown of our past reunions.  One thing to love about this clan is that This family get’s together!  And has provided some awesome opportunities for travel and education for their young.  (by the way, if anyone has details on some of these past gatherings you would like to share on this website, please feel free to edit this post, or email Charlotte to have it added to what’s here.)


1973 –  Our First Reunion – Atlanta, Georgia


1974 – Fun in the “Windy City!”  We had a tremendous turn-out, the “old Town will never be the same.”  One club owner anxiously extended an invitation for us to return the next night.


1975 – The “Big Fight” in Birmingham.  Some guy was foolish enough to attack a family member when he was surrounded by several of the female clan.  “WE TOOK CARE OF HIM.”


1976 – Fun in the “Motor City” Detroit, Michigan.  We had laughs galore in Alice’s beautiful backyard and enjoyed going across the border to Canada


1977 – We roamed the “French Quarter” in New Orleans


1978 –  the beautiful “Wisconsin Dells”   … It was a Great Adventure


1979 –  “Hilton Head’ in South Carolina.  The midnight swim was out of sight.


1980 –  The Gilmers moved to Gardenia, California.  We followed them!  The “Tijuana Experience” was out of sight.


1981 – The “Wagon Wheel Resort” in Rockford, Illinois was the setting for the first reunion with Joey, Father Clements newly adopted son.  Interesting News Coverage.


1982 – We had a wonderful time visitng “Washington, DC” our Nation’s Capital.  The tours were great.  Robyn and “Moon” announced their wedding.


1983 – The “Windy City” was more exciting than the first time, especially joining the festivities of Ricky and Darienne’s Wedding.


1984 –  Historic “Philadelphia” was educational and memorable, but we couldn’t resist going to Atlantic City for a day of “playing the slots.”


1985Can’t beat that “Southern Hospitality” in Birmingham.  Hurricane Alan stopped us from going to Gulf Shores, so we camped at James Edna Wells’ home for the weekend… ALL OF US!!


1986 – The “Toronto Canada” train ride was great fun and scenic.  The fire at the Sheraton Banquet Dinner was “alarming” we continued on in the Peters/Clements/Gazaway family tradition.


1987 –  Enjoyed “Hilton Head” so much in 1979, we returned… had twice the fun.  Dinner on the beach at sundown was “the bomb!”


1988 –  “Mini Family Reunion” in “Lagos Nigeria.”  What an experience, seeing the Motherland and going to the American Embassy for the annual July 4 Celebration attended by many dignitaries and Heads of State.


1989 – “Atlanta” Revisited!  Dinner at the historic “Paschal’s was great!


1990 –  Not a dull moment in “Houston” … Johnson Space Center, Galveston Island, The Alamo, Sea World, the July 4th Fireworks Celebration, and the Barbeque at Tim and Curly’s…. Whew!


1991 –  Just can’t get enough of the sights, sounds and cultural attractions of …. none other than… THE WINDY CITY.


1992The family returned to “Opelika, Alabama” the roots of the Peters Family and learned a lot of our ancestry in Chambers County.


1993“Sacramento, California” … San Francisco/The Wine Country/ Historic Folsom/ the Railroad Museum/the Cultural Center and Kicking back with the Hart’s barbequing by the pool and the Jacuzzi.


1994 –  We returned to “Washington, D.C.”  We didn’t have to wait in the long line to tour the White House.  “The Clements Connection” The Potomac Luncheon Cruise/Adventure World/The Banquet at the Navy Yard Officers Club/cookout Pool party at Robyn and Moon’s home.  What a weekend!


1995“Chicago, Chicago…. It’s my kind of town!”  The Talent Show at the Banquet was especially wonderful because so many of our young family members performed.


1996 –  More fun in “The Windy City.”


1997Our reunion was combined with the celebration of Friday’s Wedding.


1998 –  Fort Lauderdale was our destination for this year.  Although only eight of us were there, we couldn’t have had more fun.  Sometimes great things happen in small groups.


1999“Maryland” … Anita and Robyn know how to host a family reunion.  The seafood feast was great!


2000 –  The family turned it out again on the dance floor during the “Starship Dinner Cruise” in Biloxi, Mississippi.  Alice, Curly, Pat, Rosalyn and Ynez volunteered Leslyn for the next reunion over 2 or was it 3 bottles of Champagne during the curise?


2001Royal treatment for the family at the Hart’s Empty Next Celebration in Ohio.  It was a top drawer event as we enjoyed their luxurious home with a private movie theatre downstairs.


2002 –  Family members and friends received the “Top Drawer” treatment at the Clark’s lovely home in West Hartford, Connecticut.  Leslyn, Marcus and Sam were perfect hosts as we enjoyed an Old Fashioned Bar-B-Que Cookout, featuring an Authentic Pig Roast in their back yard.


2003Hurricane Alan stopped us in 1985, but we’re a determined family!  It may have taken 18 years but we finally made it to the Gulf Shores!


2004 –  We returned to Detroit with Alice and Robert as hosts celebrating their new home.  We toured the Motown Museum and were treated to a beautiful performance by her church youth group.


2005Back to Chicago.  We just can’t get enough of the city’s hospitality.


2006 –  Roswell, Georgia was the place to be as we enjoyed celebrating Tim Hart’s retirement from UPS and the building of their retirement home which is affectionately known as the “Pinebox Estate”…. since Curly does not plan on moving again until she is in a PINEBOX.


2007The young adults got together and planned a Spectacular reunion in Las Vegas.  It was hotter than Hades, but we all enjoyed watching Stephen Richardson win big at the machines.


2008Bea and John Coley took us back to our roots in Opelika/Auburn, Alabama.  What a memorable time!


2009George and Zenobia hosted and shared the historical significance of Durham, North Carolina.  Preston Wilson represented the best of what we hope for our Children and its legacy with his tour with the world famous “Fisk Jubilee Singers,” and his graduation from Fisk University.  Way to Represent Preston.”


2010 –  Pius and Louella shared their lovely home with us in Lakeland, Florida.  We had a fantastic time and enjoyed their generous hospitality and beautiful city.


2011We went back to the “Windy City.”  The shopping, the fish fry, and the night life was wonderful.  But, the “Living Legends Ball” was over the top.


2012The family celebrated in historic Savannah, Georgia.  Our hotel was off the Boardwalk… so you know where we spent our time.


2013 –  This time it was back to  New Orleans… Meet-ups for breakfast in the lobby of the Hampton Inn & Suites Hotel, Steamboat Tours, Bus tours, the French Quarter, and great New Orleans cuisine combined with heartwarming family gatherings… This’ll be a tough act to follow.


20142014 was The BOMB!  Stephane, Valerie, Wilda, Deborah, Barbara, Ebone, and Rosalyn:  they all worked together to put it on for the Peters family.  We had fun with the kids at the McWayne Science Center, and at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, we took a walk back down memory lane and were inspired by that historical journey,  


2015 –  We walked the beach and soaked up the sun, along The Outer Banks Of North Carolina, courtesy of George and Zee.


2016 –  Look Out Washington DC! 


2017 –  WASHINGTON, DC, HERE WE COME!


2018 –  PIGEON FORGE, TENNESSEE, HERE WE COME!!


2019 –  Each Year GETS BETTER AND BETTER!  TIM, YOLANDA, VALERIE AND DEBORAH, pulled off one of the BEST Reunions ever in Historic Montgomery, Alabama!
