STATEMENT OF THE HISTORICAL RESEARCH
On The Peters Family
A mind-boggling amount of work spanning 30 or more years has been completed by our family historians, Mrs. Beatrice R. “Bea” Coley , and Mrs. Ynez Clements Gilmer. Over the past 30 years, Mrs. Coley and Mrs. Gilmer have unearthed layers upon layers of our family’s history, and the depth of Bea’s knowledge is nothing short of amazing.
They have completed this amazing feat, utilizing reliable, scholarly methods, documenting their work every step of the way.
DNA TESTING
Beatrice has even gone sofar as to having our family’s ancestry traced back to their african ancestry, via DNA testing, which was completed in September 9, 2011 via a DNA swab done on our then oldest living male relative, Desabee Peters. This testing, known as Patriclan Testing, completed by Dr. Rick Kittles, Scientific Director of African American Ancestry, resulted in the determination that the Peters family shares paternal genetic ancestry with the UMBUNDU PEOPLE LIVING IN ANGOLA. “Bea” tells the story of our family, with such knowledge and fervor that she literally personifies an African “Griot” enabling us to cross the lengthy barrier of time that separates us from our ancestors.
