Jimmy (Jim) Peters [4/8/1887] Jimmie (Jim) was the oldest son of Sweed and Carrie Peters. They lived at Oak Bowery. His Draft registration card shows that he was born 4/8/1887. He stated that he was born in Opelika, and he was living in Anniston at the time, and working at U.S. East Iron, and U.S. Construction and Pipe Company. On the draft card, he stated that he had a wife and child. It is known that he could not write, because his signature was a mark witnessed by someone at the draft agency.

This leads me to believe that I may be able to trace his where-a-bouts in the Anniston-Calhoun County area.

Valerie Smith is the youngest daughter of the late Sarah Hall Smith and the late Neil Smith. This means that Valerie is the granddaughter of the late Susie “Sweetie” Peters Hall, and Frank Hall, Sr.

Valerie’s siblings are: a deceased sister Crystal Diane Vines, Reverend Warren Vines (married to Ethel) and Wilda Vines Gunn (married to Hansel).

Valerie will be found in the family tree of Sweed and Caroline Lockhart Peters.

Sarah Hall Smith was the daughter of the late Frank and Susie “Sweetie” Peters Hall. Her children include daughters is Valerie Smith, Wilda Vines Gunn and Reverend Warren Vines and his wife Ethel.

Her first spouse was Lynwood Vines. She later married Neil Smith.

Sarah’s children included her son, Reverend Warren Vines (married to Ethel), her deceased daughter Crystal Diane Vines, and her daughters, Wilda Vines Gunn (married to Hansel), and Valerie Smith.

A Catholic Priest, Father George H. Clements has distinguished himself as a pioneer in recognizing the many social problems of our society, and and encouraged the adoption of African-American children. In June 1969, Father Clements became the first black pastor of Holy Angels Catholic Church on the South Side of Chicago. He is also well known for his involvement in civil rights activities during a period that extended from the late 1960s to present.

He is the father of: children: Joey, St. Anthony, Friday, Stewart (all adopted).

The fourth of six children, Father George Clements was born George Harold Clements in Chicago, Illinois on January 26, 1932 to Samuel George Clements, a Chicago city auditor, and Aldonia (Peters) Clements.

He attended Corpus Christi Elementary School in Chicago, and graduated from Chicago’s Quigley Academy Seminary in 1945.

He studied at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sacred Theology, and a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy. Father Clements became an ordained priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago on May 3, 1957.

Father Clements has been honored by numerous organizations, including the Kentucky State Senate, which issued a resolution praising his deeds. A film starring Lou Gossett, Jr., The Father Clements Story, was produced and broadcast by NBC in 1987

Father Clements has authored a book: (Editor) Black Catholic Men of God, National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus, 1975. and He was named priest of the year, 1977, by the Association of Chicago Priests; named honorary chief by the Yoruba tribe, 1987.
